Tips
- Change the letter for every job — mention the exact role and company.
- Use numbers where you can: typing speed, targets met, customers handled.
- Use "Yours sincerely" when you know the person's name and "Yours faithfully" for Sir/Madam (Indian usage accepts either).
- Attach your resume as a PDF with a clear file name.
- Check spelling twice.

Frequently asked questions
Is an application letter the same as a cover letter?
Mostly yes. Both are short letters sent with a resume. "Cover letter" is used more in corporate jobs; "application letter" is common in India for all jobs.
How long should a job application letter be?
Under 200 words, in three short paragraphs. Recruiters read it quickly.
Should I write the letter in Hindi?
Write in the language the company uses. For most private jobs English is expected, but a Hindi letter is fine for local businesses that prefer it.
Do I need an application letter when applying online?
Many online applications do not need one. If there is a message box, a two- or three-line version of the letter helps you stand out.
